The boards’ approval comes on the heels of the Georgia Attorney General’s Office approving  the proposed deal earlier this week.

“We believe this strategic combination between Atrium Health and Navicent Health will have a significant and positive impact on the communities we are privileged to serve, and we look forward to expanding access to quality healthcare while reducing disparities,” the health systems said in a joint statement Dec. 11, according to The Telegraph.

Navicent Health will serve as a “regional hub” for Atrium Health and is the system’s first facility in Georgia. Atrium Health maintains more than 40 hospitals and declared $9.8 billion in net operating revenue, according to the system’s 2016 community report cited by The Telegraph.

The organizations will work to finalize the deal during the next several weeks.
