Ms. Varney cautioned, “I don’t think we want to foster a system where … the legal review, the result of your merger, depends on which agency it’s in front of,” according to the report.
Ms. Varney, assistant attorney general in charge of the DOJ’s Antitrust Division, will step down from her position next month. Her replacement has not yet been announced.
