The 13 physician owners have not yet accepted the hospital’s offer, but officials from SMC hoped to reach an agreement within 60 days and definitely by the end of the year, according to the report.

SMC sees the purchase as a chance to consolidate surgical services in the community and to, hopefully, reduce costs for the hospital, the surgery center and patients. According to the report, it was not yet clear if SMC would eliminate redundant services at the surgery center if the purchase goes through.
