North Dakota Approves MeritCare Merger With South Dakota Health System

The North Dakota Attorney General has approved merger plans between MeritCare, a health system based in Fargo, N.D., and Sanford Health, a health system based in Sioux Falls, S.D., according to a report by The Forum of Fargo-Moorhead.

Attorney General Wayne Stenehjem retained an accounting firm to evaluate the merger plans. Following the evaluation, Attorney General Stenehjem approved the merger saying that it would expand existing services and service areas while reducing costs, according to the report.

MeritCare and Sanford announced merger plans in September.
