Northern Michigan has a large rural population and significant geographic distances between communities, making it critical for healthcare providers in the region to join forces.
“We determined that having Munson Healthcare as our parent company is the most effective way to ensure ongoing hospital success in the changing healthcare environment,” said Ruth Hoppe, MD, chair of the Charlevoix Area Hospital board of directors.
The deal, which still requires regulatory approval, is expected to close Dec. 1. At that time, the hospital’s name will change to Munson Healthcare Charlevoix Hospital.
