The Community Hospital board began seeking proposals for a financial merger, joint venture opportunity or acquisition of the hospital in June, after confronting its struggle to survive and expand services.
Lakeland representatives have stated that Lakeland’s acquisition of Community Hospital would include a commitment to three capital projects: an emergency room overhaul, renovation of semi-private rooms to private and a new air-handling unit for the surgery department, according to the report.
Officials are confident the move will add to the quality, access, and reduce the cost of medical care in the Southwest Michigan community. The acquisition should be complete within three months.
