Merger Hunt May Not Be Over for Beaumont, Henry Ford

Although Detroit-based Henry Ford Health System and Royal Oak, Mich.-based Beaumont Health System are no longer looking to merge, each system may search for new, separate merger partners, according to a Crain's Detroit Business report.

Last week, HFHS and Beaumont announced their proposed merger was no longer an option after six months of negotiations. Both systems cited differing perspectives as reasons for the botched talks.

However, HFHS and Beaumont may continue their strategic affiliation plans with different suitors. Crain's Detroit Business said unnamed sources believe Beaumont may consider Nashville, Tenn.-based, for-profit companies Hospital Corporation of America and Vanguard Health Systems as merger partners. Potential non-profit merger partners included Cleveland Clinic, University of Michigan Health System in Ann Arbor and Spectrum Health System in Grand Rapids, Mich., according to the unnamed sources. New potential merger partners for HFHS were not named.

Executives from both systems declined to speak with Crain's Detroit Business.
