Mayor Implores Rhode Island Governor to Complete Sale of Landmark Medical Center

The mayor of Woonsocket, R.I., called on the governor to end the delay in selling Landmark Medical Center to Ontario, Calif.-based Prime Healthcare Services, according to a report by the Providence Journal.

Landmark was placed into receivership five years ago, but Mayor Leo Fontaine said "seemingly endless obstacles" and "pointless, destructive foot-dragging associated with the review process" have kept a sale from closing, adding to Landmark's "mounting debt," according to the Providence Journal.

The Rhode Island attorney general's office and the state health department in March found Prime's application to acquire the hospital was incomplete for the second time. The regulators suspended review of the proposed acquisition while Prime updated and modified its application.
