Lurie Children's strikes pediatric partnership with new Centegra hospital

Crystal Lake, Ill.-based Centegra Health System is teaming up with Ann & Robert H. Lurie Children's Hospital to staff pediatric hospitalists around the clock at its new hospital in Huntley, Ill.

"We look forward to having a major pediatric presence within Centegra Health System, and in McHenry and Kane counties," Patrick Magoon, president and CEO of Lurie Children's, said in a statement announcing the partnership. "We are able to advance care by having our hospitalists — who are skilled, board-certified physicians — staff their pediatric programs in a most convenient and cost-effective setting."

Lurie Children's board-certified pediatricians will care for inpatients and assist in the emergency department for pediatric cases at Centegra's Huntley hospital. The two organizations will also collaborate to elevate pediatric cardiology and concussion care. This fall, Centegra Health Center-Huntley will welcome Lurie Children's cardiologists, who will be able to read electrocardiograms and echocardiograms. Children with concussions will be referred to Lurie Children's Concussion Program as well.

"Centegra understands that children aren't just small adults and that they are still growing," Centegra CEO Michael Eesley said in a statement. "We want our youngest patients to have streamlined access to medical specialists when our own pediatric experts believe they would benefit from additional care. By partnering with Lurie Children's, our patients have access to the best inpatient and specialist care."
