Zachary, La.-based Lane Regional Medical Center’s board of commissioners has approved the exploration of a strategic affiliation with another healthcare organization to help the hospital expand services and invest in its future, a hospital spokesperson said in a July 20 statement shared with Becker’s.
The 131-bed hospital has been open since 1960 and has more than 850 employees, according to its website.
“Like hospitals across Louisiana and throughout the nation, healthcare providers continue to face significant financial and operational challenges driven by rising costs, workforce shortages, increasing regulatory requirements and changes in reimbursement,” the statement said. “These pressures have been especially difficult for independent community hospitals and those serving rural and regional communities.”
Lane Regional aims to position itself to expand services, invest in new physicians and technology, and invest in future generations through exploring a strategic affiliation.
The hospital, which will remain fully operational throughout the process, has also invested in regional healthcare over the years, including the opening of a patient tower, renovations to the hospital, expanded physician recruitment and the addition of medical specialties and services.
“This is not about selling the hospital or being bought by another health system,” the statement said. “It is about identifying an organization that can help us build upon the strong foundation Lane has established while preserving our mission and our commitment to this community.”
The statement said no decisions or agreements have been made regarding an affiliation, but the board has authorized the exploration of an organization that shares the hospital’s commitment to care, quality and long-term health.
