The New Smyrna Beach, Fla.-hospital was sued by the Bert Fish foundation for violating the Sunshine Law in regards to its merger with Orlando’s Florida Hospital. The Sunshine Law establishes a basic right of access to most meetings of boards, commissions and other governing bodies of state and local governmental agencies or authorities.
Bert Fish and Florida Hospital originally merged in July, but in September announced it would rehold merger meetings as a result of the lawsuit. Bert Fish reselected Florida Hospital following these discussions.
The February hearing will determine if reholding the meetings legally remedies the Sunshine violations.
