Community members expressed disapproval of such a deal in a May public hearing, influencing the board’s decision, according to a hospital press release. A consulting firm that estimated Jackson Hospital’s fair market value is between $18 million and $28 million found that selling the hospital to for-profit owners would translate to a $3.7 million loss to the community through lost public services, according to the report.
