Inova Forms Strategic Alliance With Valley Health

Inova Health System, based in Falls Church, Va., has entered into a strategic affiliation with Valley Health, a six-hospital system based in Winchester, Va.

The alliance is not an acquisition or merger, as both Inova and Valley Health will remain separate, independent entities, and no jobs are expected to be impacted. Both health systems will also retain full governance of their boards.

Central to Inova's and Valley Health's alliance is a mutual collaboration on clinical research, information technology, population health and increasing and improving access to their local populations. Mark Merrill, Valley Health's president and CEO, said in a news release the affiliation will allow both organizations to collaborate and work together around healthcare reform "in a shorter period of time, and at less cost, than would have been possible if pursued alone."

Specifically, electronic health records will be installed at Valley Health to help sync patient information across the two organizations, and the two systems will also collaborate across cardiovascular, neuroscience, orthopedic, cancer care, trauma, women's health and other service lines.

Inova has more than 1,700 licensed beds across its five hospitals in northern Virginia. Valley Health has 594 beds across its six hospitals, which are located in Virginia and West Virginia.
