Indianapolis-based Clarian Health has acquired several smaller hospital systems over the past year, and two other Indianapolis-based health systems — St. Francis and St. Vincent — have indicated they are in regular discussions about potential acquisitions.
Discussions about possible mergers between the systems are not uncommon. Bill Corley, CEO of Community Health Network, confirmed that members of Clarian Health’s board of directors had spoken with Community’s board about such an arrangement over the past year or so, although Community’s board was not interested in merging, according to the report.
However, Mr. Corley indicated he expects to see more partnerships on hospital projects.
Analysts says hospitals are looking at acquisitions, partnerships and mergers as ways to maintain financial stability due to growing reimbursement challenges from government and commercial payors.
