Illinois’s Saint Anthony’s and Hospital Sisters Health Systems End Affiliation Plans

A planned affiliation between Saint Anthony’s Health System based in Alton, Ill., and Hospital Sisters Health System based in Springfield, Ill., have announced that they have ended plans to affiliate the systems but did not offer an explanation, according to a press release on St. Anthony’s Web site.

As a result of the termination, St. Anthony’s is suspending a $67 million expansion at the St. Anthony’s campus, according to the St. Louis Business Journal.

Hospital Sisters Health System sponsors three hospitals in the region — St. Elizabeth’s Hospital in Belleville, St. Joseph’s Hospital in Breese and St. Joseph’s Hospital in Highland. Saint Anthony’s Health System sponsors two hospitals in Alton: Saint Anthony’s Health Center and Saint Clare’s Hospital.
