Hutcheson Medical Center has asked a bankruptcy court judge in Rome, Ga., to remove the Trenton facility from the existing lease between the medical center and the Hospital Authority. The petition says the medical center does not believe the Trenton facility is among the properties that Chattanooga, Tenn.-based Erlanger Health System has a lien to cover $20 million in debt incurred during the period of time that Erlanger operated Hutcheson.
Dade County officials have arranged for the Dade County Industrial Development Authority to purchase the practice. Dade County Executive Ted Rumley said arrangements are being made “with a major hospital in Chattanooga” to operate it, according to the report.
“It is not known where many of our residents would receive their health care if Trenton Family Practice were not there,” said Mr. Rumley, according to the report. “Even a temporary disruption in the medical services provided by this facility would pose a threat to the health and wellbeing of our citizens. Not only would the closing of the facility have an enormous impact on our local healthcare system, but such a loss would also threaten our efforts to recruit and retain industry in commercial development in our county.”
In 2014, the Trenton Family Practice saw just under 8,000 patients.
