District board plans to hold special meeting to decide Huntsville Memorial's future management

The Walker County Hospital District board of managers plans to hold a special meeting Monday to determine if it should part ways with Huntsville-based Walker County Hospital Corp., which manages Huntsville (Texas) Memorial Hospital, according to The Huntsville Item.

During the meeting, the board will aim to vote on a resolution to deliver a written termination letter to Walker County Hospital Corp. A spokesperson for the management board's communications support team said the proposed resolution "simply authorizes the chairman to deliver a 365-day termination notice to [Walker County Hospital Corp.] It is a formal process where [the board] consider[s] request[s] for proposals, and it is a lengthy process they have to go through to bring in a different corporation."

If the board votes to approve the resolution, the hospital will continue to operate as normal and patients will see no change in their quality of care, the spokesperson added. He did not comment on the board's reason for finding new management, according to the report.

Brentwood, Tenn.-based Quorum Health was previously in talks with the district to purchase the hospital, but negotiations fell apart in April for undisclosed reasons.
