Hospital M&A activity dips slightly in first half of 2014

During the first two quarters of 2014, 43 hospital and health system transactions were announced, a slight decreased from 46 transactions in the first half of last year, according to a Kaufman Hall analysis.

Of the transactions announced during the first half of this year, most (40) involved nonprofit organizations. Thirty-three of those 40 nonprofit transactions involved other nonprofit organizations, while seven involved for-profit entities.

Total operating revenue for the organizations acquired during the first two quarters of 2014 was $10 billion, and the transactions occurred across various acute care segments, including nonprofit, for-profit, rural, urban and academic health centers, according to the analysis.
