Franciscan Health System Acquires Highline Medical Center

Tacoma, Wash.-based Franciscan Health System has finalized its acquisition of Burien, Wash.-based Highline Medical Center, which operates a 154-bed acute-care hospital, a specialty center and more than 20 clinics.

The two organizations began exploring an affiliation in June 2012, with the health system’s leaders citing potential benefits from integrated services. The affiliation formally took effect April 1.

Franciscan Health System, a member of Englewood, Colo.-based Catholic Health Initiatives, will spend the next several months integrating Highline into its now six-hospital system. Financial details of the agreement were not disclosed.
