Winter Haven sent out requests for proposals for partnerships in November 2011. By February 2012, the hospital had narrowed its search to BayCare Health as well as Mayo Clinic Jacksonville (Fla.) and Shands Healthcare at University of Florida in Gainesville. According to the report, Winter Haven narrowed the choice to BayCare because the health system’s objectives and corporate values are the most compatible.

A spokesperson for BayCare said it is too early in the process to discuss a timeline or the extent of the potential partnership. The possibilities could range from BayCare buying the hospital to helping Winter Haven handle specific services, according to the report.
