The decision came during a special meeting July 10 after board members met with more than 80 hospital physicians, residents and staff. Representatives voiced their concerns about ending the agreement for close to an hour, according to the report.
The district was considering canceling its lease agreement with Walker County Hospital Corp. because district managers “believe[d] something need[ed] to be done to attract a potential buyer” to ensure the hospital received adequate funding and resources to improve the quality of care available in the area, according to the report.
The district previously entered into negotiations to sell the hospital to Brentwood, Tenn.-based Quorum Health, but discussions ended in April.
Should the district board decide to terminate the lease, officials said patient care would not be interrupted and the hospital would not close, according to the report.
