Daughters of Charity signed a memorandum of understanding to merge with Ascension in March 2012 and signed a formal affiliation agreement with Ascension in December. The two entities have been engaged in merger talks for more than a year and a half, according to the report.
Daughters of Charity issued a statement to the Times saying the affiliation agreement doesn’t involve a change in corporate control, a transfer of assets or an assumption of the health system’s liabilities. Furthermore, according to the statement, it shouldn’t be assumed at this time the health system will become a member of the Ascension Health Alliance Obligated Groups.
