Sen. Loretta Weinberg (D-Teaneck) said the county should utilize the 11-member hospital authority panel the governor signed into law in September to improve transparency and oversight at Bergen Regional, according to the article.
An addiction counselor employed by the hospital also spoke at the meeting, urging officials to expand insurance options so that more patients could be served. The 1,070-bed hospital does not currently accept private insurance, according to the article.
Twelve health care companies are planning to submit bids to operate the facility. The 19-year contract between county officials and the current hospital operator expires in March 2017.
County officials extended the deadline to submit proposals until Dec. 2.
