Jacksonville, Fla.-based Baptist Health has partnered with Compass Surgical Partners, Coastal Health and local physicians to operate Middleburg Surgery Center in Jacksonville.
The partnership has taken ownership of the 5,500-square-foot ASC, a multispecialty facility which supports procedures in orthopedics, urology, otolaryngology, pain management and general surgery. Fifteen physician partners have committed to the center, and the group is evaluating potential expansion opportunities as demand grows.
Eric Fletcher, chief strategy officer at Baptist Health, said the center supports the health system’s efforts to expand access to high-quality surgical care in Northeast Florida.
“Middleburg Surgery Center exemplifies our commitment to providing accessible, high-quality care throughout the communities we serve,” Mr. Fletcher said in a March 10 news release. “This center brings together surgeons from multiple specialties, creating opportunities for collaboration and efficiency that benefit both physicians and patients.”
The new venture also builds on Baptist Health’s broader strategy to expand its ASC footprint through partnerships with Compass Surgical Partners. In 2024, the organizations announced plans to launch a joint network of ASCs branded as Horizon Surgery Center, with the first facility opening on the campus of Baptist Medical Center Beaches in Jacksonville.
Through the initiative, Baptist — via its for-profit subsidiary Pavilion Health Services — and Compass plan to develop multiple ASCs across Northeast Florida by acquiring existing centers and upgrading outpatient surgical facilities owned by the health system.
Compass Surgical Partners works with physician groups and health systems nationwide to develop and manage outpatient surgical networks.
Scott Bacon, senior vice president of corporate development at Compass Surgical Partners, said the Middleburg center reflects the companies’ broader effort to expand access to specialized surgical care in the region.
“Opening this multispecialty ASC in partnership with Baptist Health marks an important milestone in our mission to expand access to specialized surgical care in northwest Florida,” Mr. Bacon said.
