Aspirus, a rural health system in Wausau, Wis., signed a letter of intent with Divine Savior Healthcare in Portage, Wis., the organizations announced July 10.

Nonprofit Aspirus has four hospitals in Michigan and four hospitals in Wisconsin. It also has 50 clinics. After affiliating with Divine Savior, Aspirus will become a nine-hospital system with about 60 clinics.

"The healthcare industry is changing, and this affiliation will help Divine Savior Healthcare continue to grow and evolve to better serve our communities," said Michael Decker, president and CEO of Divine Savior.

The organizations will begin the due diligence process this month and expect the affiliation to be finalized by the end of 2019.
