The city of Greenville, Ala., signed a letter of intent with Frey Medical Management to begin management operations and pursue the purchase of Regional Medical Center of Central Alabama.
Frey Medical Management is a healthcare company that specializes in “revitaliz[ing] struggling rural hospitals,” according to its website.
“[R]ural emergency hospital[s] across Alabama [have] experienced significant challenges,” the city said in a Jan. 12 Facebook post. “In Greenville, multiple conversations have taken place among city leadership, healthcare partners and stakeholders to identify a sustainable path forward for maintaining local access to comprehensive medical services.”
Under the proposed agreement, RMCCA would continue to function as a full-service hospital and preserve comprehensive medical services for Greenville and the surrounding areas. Hospital employment is also expected to be unaffected, according to the post.
The news comes after RMCCA shared plans in November to lay off around 90 employees across multiple departments and end inpatient services — a restructuring effort to follow rural emergency hospital guidelines.
