9 Recent Hospital Mergers and Acquisitions

The following hospital mergers, acquisitions and general transaction news took place within the past week, beginning with the most recent.

1. Possible Partnership Between Lady of the Sea, Thibodaux Regional Sparks Debate in Louisiana
Lafourche Parish councilmembers and public attendees engaged in a heated debate regarding a feasibility study to explore a partnership between Lady of the Sea General Hospital in Cut Off, La., and Thibodaux (La.) Regional Medical Center.

2. Missouri Governor Signs Law to Regulate North Kansas City Hospital Sale
Resolving a feud that has been brewing bitterly between North Kansas City (Mo.) Hospital and city leaders for months, Missouri Gov. Jay Nixon signed a bill that will require a public vote in addition to city council and hospital trustees' approval in order to sell the city-owned hospital.

3. Beaumont Health Officials Lobby Board to Reconsider Henry Ford Health Merger
Five clinical heads of Royal Oak, Mich.-based Beaumont Health System wrote a letter to the system board, urging members to reconsider a proposed merger with Detroit-based Henry Ford Health System.

4. Oak Valley Hospital, Dignity Health in California to End 15-Year Affiliation
Oak Valley Hospital in Oakdale, Calif., will not renew its 15-year affiliation with San Francisco-based Catholic system Dignity Health when the contract expires Sept. 1.

5. Illinois Health Board Approves 2 System Mergers
The Illinois Health Facilities and Services Review Board approved two separate health system merger proposals. Elgin-based Sherman Health earned the board's approval to merge into Downers Grove-based Advocate Health Care. The second approved deal will merge Naperville-based Edward Hospital & Health Services and Elmhurst (Ill.) Memorial Healthcare into a non-profit system.

6. OhioHealth to Take Reins of MedCentral Health System
Mansfield, Ohio-based MedCentral Health System signed a letter of intent to join the Columbus-based OhioHealth network.

7. Alameda Health System to Take Over San Leandro Hospital From Sutter Health
Sacramento, Calif.-based Sutter Health entered into a nonbinding letter of intent to transfer all assets of its 93-bed San Leandro Hospital to Oakland, Calif.-based Alameda Health System, contingent on a finalized definitive agreement signed by both systems by July 1.

8. Billings Clinic, RegionalCare Form Joint Venture
Billings (Mont.) Clinic and RegionalCare Hospital Partners, based in Brentwood, Tenn., have formed a joint venture called Billings Clinic RegionalCare LLC.

9. Memorial Medical Center in Michigan Signs Letter to Join Spectrum Health
Spectrum Health, based in Grand Rapids, Mich., signed a nonbinding letter of intent to acquire Memorial Medical Center in Ludington, Mich.
