R.I. Senate Approves Bill to Eliminate 3-Year Wait Between Hospital Purchases

The Rhode Island Senate unanimously approved a bill yesterday to eliminate a requirement that for-profit hospital corporations wait three years between acquiring hospitals, according to a Providence Journal report.

Boston-based Steward Healthcare proposed the amendments to Rhode Island’s 15-year-old Hospital Conversions Act. The bill would strike the mandatory pause between hospital acquisitions and also reduce the regulatory review process from 180 days to 120.
