1. New York’s Public Health and Health Planning Council approved the certificate of need application to consolidate Arnot Ogden Medical Center and St. Joseph’s Hospital, both in Elmira, N.Y.
2. Raleigh, N.C.-based WakeMed wants to close the proposed $750 million acquisition of Raleigh’s Rex Healthcare, part of Chapel Hill-based UNC Health Care, on or before Dec. 31. Although UNC Health Care has said it is not interested in selling Rex Healthcare, it has agreed to review WakeMed’s offer.
3. County commissioners voted 19-5 against selling Williamson Medical Center in Franklin, Tenn.
4. Two-hundred twenty-two-bed Pardee Hospital in Hendersonville, N.C., approved an affiliation agreement with Chapel Hill-based UNC Health Care System.
5. Nashville, Tenn.-based HCA entered into a non-binding memorandum of understanding with The Colorado Health Foundation to acquire full ownership of Denver-based HCA-HealthONE for $1.45 billion.

9. The partnership between Battle Creek (Mich.) Health System and Kalamazoo, Mich.-based Bronson Healthcare is official.
10. Three Kentucky healthcare organizations — University of Louisville Hospital/James Graham Brown Cancer Center, Louisville-based Jewish Hospital & St. Mary’s HealthCare and Lexington-based Saint Joseph Health System — received approval from their boards to create a healthcare system.
11. MedCath put its shares in Bakersfield (Calif.) Heart Hospital up for sale as it moves toward dissolving the company.
