Yale New Haven Health System to close 2 clinics

Yale New Haven Health System in New Haven, Conn., is closing a clinic in Branford and another in East Haven as part of an effort to address significant state budget cuts, according to the New Haven Register.

Vin P. Petrini, senior vice president of public affairs at Yale-New Haven Hospital, said the system decided to close the clinics after evaluating its finances following a dramatic reduction in state funding. Yale-New Haven Hospital was hit harder than most other hospitals in the state: Of the $105 million cut from hospital funding, $58 million, or 56 percent, was for Yale-New Haven Hospital, Mr. Petrini told the New Haven Register.

By closing the two clinics, Mr. Petrini said the health system will be able to save approximately $1 million. About 31 employees at the two clinics will be affected by the closures, according to the report. The hospital is looking to find them positions "within our existing vacancies in the health system," Mr. Petrini said.

No other facilities operated by Yale-New Haven are scheduled to close, according to the report.
