The annual John M. Dunn Endowed Scholarship will cover more than $100,000 in tuition for eligible WMU graduates admitted to the university’s medical school program.

The scholarship endowment was created using $2.2 million in financial contributions from key community leaders, the university’s board of trustees, Borgess Health and Bronson Healthcare, both in Kalamazoo.

Dr. Dunn initially discussed the formation of a medical school in 2007, which became a reality in 2011. He will continue to serve as the founding chair of the board for the medical school until his retirement July 31.

“We are overjoyed with the community support to establish this new scholarship fund for our future medical students,” said Hal Jenson, MD, founding dean of the Western Michigan University Homer Stryker M.D. School of Medicine. “This scholarship is a way to memorialize Dr. Dunn’s commitment to students and lifelong learning.”
