WellCare Health Plans to Incentivize PCMH Model

Tampa, Fla.-based WellCare Health Plans has announced it will offer incentives for the use of the patient-centered medical home model in its Georgia Medicaid provider network.

WellCare will provide enhanced payments for PCMH recognition and expanded services. The incentive program is based on standards used by the National Committee for Quality Assurance. Physician practices will be rewarded based on the following three standards:

•    NCQA accreditation as a PCMH
•    Offering PCMH-like services such as enhanced access
•    Meeting unspecified quality metrics

"The PMCH supports our mission to enhance our members' health and quality of life. Practices will be incentivized to support and promote the delivery of high-value primary and preventive services, and will be rewarded for improved health outcomes while stabilizing or reducing total healthcare costs," Jesse Thomas, WellCare South Division president, said in the news release.
