UNCPN will include community physicians affiliated with UNC Health Care, including Rex Healthcare, UNC Hospitals, UNC Physicians and Associates and Chatham Hospital in Siler City, N.C.. The network was formerly called Triangle Physician Network, as it was initially focused on the Triangle. Now, the expanded UNC Physicians Network includes 34 practices and more than 150 providers.
“The Triangle” or “Research Triangle” refers to the region in North Carolina occupied by North Carolina State University, Duke University, University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, and cities of Raleigh, Durham, and Chapel Hill respectively.
“This reflects the enlarging geographic breadth of our community physician network beyond just the Triangle,” Allen Daugird, MD, president of UNC Physicians Network, said in the release. “The change is also part of an evolving system-wide branding strategy for UNC Health Care.”
