Together, UCF and HCA plan to build the hospital in the Lake Nona community of Orlando.

UCF announced its partnership goal roughly two months ago and received proposals from three health systems: Orlando (Fla.) Health, Orland-based Florida Hospital and HCA.

UCF College of Medicine Dean Deborah German, MD, said she ultimately recommended the board of trustees select HCA due to its strong proposal, large national database and an existing residency relationship with UCF.

Before they can establish a teaching hospital, UCF and HCA must obtain state approval through Florida’s certificate of need process. The next certificate application deadline is Oct. 12. The state will make its final decision in December.

If approved, the hospital would generate more than $900 million over 30 years for UCF.
