UC San Diego, Sharp partner for liver care: 3 things to know

UC San Diego Health and San Diego-based Sharp HealthCare have formed a joint liver transplantation program.

Here are three things to know about the program.

1. The program is designed to enhance liver transplantation services in San Diego by combining resources, collaborating on research and expanding specialized liver care, according to a news release.

2. Officials said they expect the alliance to strengthen clinical services for patients with end-stage liver disease while reducing costs.

3. The new arrangement took effect Jan. 7 and follows the entities' existing joint bone marrow transplant program.
