The AMA’s “Organizational Biopsy” report analyzed data from more than 13,000 physicians and nonphysician providers in 30 states and more than 70 health systems. The survey asked about job satisfaction, job stress, burnout, intent to leave an organization, feeling valued and total hours spent per week on work-related activities.
Here are the six physicians specialties in 2022 with the highest percentages of burnout:
- Emergency medicine: 62 percent
- Hospital medicine: 59 percent
- Family medicine: 58 percent
- Pediatrics: 55 percent
- Obstetrics and gynecology: 54 percent
- Internal medicine: 52 percent
