A new survey of over 1,000 Chicago-area physicians finds 90 percent believe healthcare is a basic human right and should be available to all, and 56 percent support a universal, single-payer system.

The survey was conducted by the Chicago Medical Society, a group representing over 17,000 physicians in the Chicago area. Of the physicians surveyed, 63 percent view the ACA favorably while 23 percent hold a favorable view of the AHCA.

“Because of our profit-driven, multi-payer health system, doctors are spending hours each day on paperwork and billing, hours that could have been spent on patient care,” said Claudia Fegan, MD, an internist at John H. Stroger, Jr. Hospital in Chicago and national coordinator for Physicians for a National Health Program. “Not surprisingly, a growing number of healthcare providers reject the AHCA and support the simplicity and efficiency of improved Medicare for all.”
