Southwest College of Naturopathic Medicine renamed Sonoran University of Health Sciences

Tempe, Ariz.-based Southwest College of Naturopathic Medicine & Health Sciences was renamed Sonoran University of Health Sciences, according to a Sept. 26 news release.

The university redesignation was propelled by new degree programs and a state-of-the-art research institute. The university aims to support students as they train as healthcare professionals, enhance the health and well-being of patients and communities, and discover effective treatments.

Paul Mittman, EdD, university president and CEO, said the name reflects the values and aspirations of the faculty, staff, and student body.

"The Sonoran Desert's biodiversity, beauty, and resilience honors the University's past and captures our expansive goals for the future. Becoming a university is the next logical step in establishing Sonoran University of Health Sciences' position as the preeminent health sciences institution," Dr. Mittman said.
