New Jersey's Atlantic Health Launches ACO

Morristown, N.J.-based Atlantic Health has formed an accountable care organization with more than 300 participating physicians, according to a news release by the health system.

Atlantic Health is one of the largest non-profit health systems in New Jersey, operating Overlook Hospital in Summit, N.J., and Morristown Memorial Hospital.

Joseph Trunfio, president and CEO of Atlantic Health commented, "Atlantic Health will be working with physician groups in our service area to shape the details for the goals and governance of the ACO and to develop specific strategies."

The ACO expands the health system's current efforts to explore new methods of improving quality and controlling costs. Atlantic Health is currently part of the Medicare Gainsharing trial, which encourages physician and hospital collaboration to make patients' hospital stays more efficient, according to the release.
