Half of the gift, which is from an anonymous donor, will go toward planned upgrades for the Methodist University Hospital Transplant Institute. The Transplant Institute received national recognition when Apple co-founder Steve Jobs received a liver transplant there in 2009.
The donor designated the other half of the gift to advanced research at Memphis-based University of Tennessee Health Sciences Center.
“Since 2006, we’ve been on a journey to achieve national excellence for our transplant efforts, and this gift will serve as a catalyst to not only transform our Transplant Institute, but all of Methodist Le Bonheur Healthcare,” said Gary Shorb, CEO of Methodist Le Bonheur Healthcare, of which Methodist University Hospital is a part.
