The program — the first of its kind in the nation — hopes to solve Tennessee’s physician shortage by bridging the gap between physician assistant training and medical school training.
“This new program produces a doctor under what we call the apprenticeship model,” said Pete Debusk, LMU chairman of the board. “And we use on-the-job training as part of the residency requirement.”
The program will not use federal dollars to fund medical students’ residencies.
