The medical school’s fundraising campaign is part of Cambridge, Mass.-based Harvard University’s $6.5 billion fundraising goal, which the institution already surpassed by $1.5 billion.
A spokesperson for the university said the medical school received nearly 10,000 gifts and pledges to support research and funding at the institution.
Officials said the funds will help counter the lack of government funding the university will see if President Donald Trump’s proposed 2018 budget cuts take effect, according to the report. The cuts include minimizing funding for the National Institutes of Health, which provides research grants to various universities across the nation.
The medical school’s fundraising campaign will end June 30, 2018. A spokesperson for the university said medical school officials are confident the school will reach its funding goal, according to the report.
