Here are four things to know about Dr. Sukhatme.
1. Dr. Sukhatme serves as chief academic officer and Harvard faculty dean for academic programs at Boston-based Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center. He also serves as a professor at Harvard Medical School in Boston.
2. He will succeed David S. Stephens, MD, who served as interim dean of the medical school during the year-long search for a permanent replacement.
3. Dr. Sukhatme was born in India and raised in Rome. He completed his bachelor’s degree and doctor of science degree at Cambridge, Mass.-based Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
4. In addition to his work, Dr. Sukhatme cofounded several biotechnology companies and nonprofit organizations, including GlobalCures, which conducts clinical trials for cancer therapies.
