Here are five things to know about the partnership.
1. VPS, in partnership with CHOP, plans to set up a new pediatric medical facility in Abu Dhabi — scheduled to open in 2017.
2. Officials said the new pediatric medical center, the region’s first, will provide advanced medical care to the children of the United Arab Emirates and across the Middle East, and will allow VPS patients in need of more specialized treatment seamless access to CHOP’s main facility in Philadelphia.
3. VPS and CHOP will also conduct a gap analysis of the current state of pediatric care to institute specific steps in enhancing local training, technology and treatments to provide patient care in the UAE.
4. Additionally, both organizations will provide medical education, training and conferences to optimize service lines, and work together to raise the standards of medical care for the children of the Middle East, including innocent victims of the continuing humanitarian crisis in other parts of the region, officials said.
5. This is CHOP’s first alliance of its kind in the Middle East.
