This partnership builds on the neonatal and pediatric sub-specialty care available at AVH, which is located in rural Los Angeles County.

“Babies who are born or diagnosed with a very serious condition can now receive the complex level of care they need, right here in our community,” Murugesa Thangavel, MD, chief of pediatrics and medical director of AVH’s neonatal intensive care unit, said in a statement. “As neonatal medicine continues to evolve, I am proud to say that the capabilities of our NICU have continued to evolve, too, from two rooms in 1985 to 21 licensed beds today.”

Under the agreement, 10 board-certified neonatologists from UCLA are assigned to AVH and at minimum one will be on call at AVH 24/7. Three board-certified pediatric hospitalists will also be available for specialized inpatient care and emergency room consultation.
