15 Recent Hospital-Physician Transactions

The following deals between hospitals and physicians, including acquisitions, affiliations, leasing arrangements and joint ventures, occurred within the last two months, starting with the most recent.

1. Urology Inc., a urology practice in Fall River, Mass., joined New Bedford, Mass.-based Southcoast Physician Group, which is affiliated with Southcoast Health System.

2. Physicians from The Family Physicians Group PC in Memphis, Tenn., split their health system affiliations between Baptist Memorial Health Care Corp. and Methodist Le Bonheur Healthcare, both based in Memphis.

3. Lakeland (Fla.) Regional Health Systems and Clark & Daughtrey Medical Group, P.A., signed a letter of intent to merge.

4. Proctor Hospital in Peoria, Ill., agreed to sell its primary care practices to Peoria-based OSF Healthcare Systems.

5. Three internal medicine physicians from Deerpath Primary Care in Libertyville, Ill., joined Northwestern Memorial Physicians Group in Chicago.

6. Milwaukee-based Froedtert Health and the Medical College of Wisconsin, also in Milwaukee, agreed to form a joint clinical practice group, called Froedtert & The Medical College of Wisconsin Community Physicians.

7. Waukesha, Wis.-based ProHealth Solutions added two groups of hospital emergency physicians, Emergency Medical Associates of Waukesha at Waukesha Memorial Hospital and Lake County Emergency Physicians at Oconomowoc (Wis.) Memorial Hospital, to its accountable care organization.

8. Phoenix Medical Group, a multispecialty group with 24 physicians, signed a lease with Providence Hospital in Southfield, Mich., for a medical office building on the hospital's campus.

9. Alvarado Medical Group, a group of five internal medicine physicians, became the 10th Scripps Coastal Medical Center when it joined the San Diego-based Scripps Coastal Medical Group.

10. Kansas City, Kan.-based University of Kansas Hospital announced a plan to form a clinical enterprise with University of Kansas Physicians, an independent organization that manages 18 physician practices and the University of Kansas Medical Center, also in Kansas City, to streamline and improve patient care.

11. Cincinnati-based The Christ Hospital's physician group, The Christ Hospital Physicians, acquired two physician groups: The ENT Group and the Cincinnati Spine Institute.

12. Olympia, Wash.-based Providence Health Care, part of Providence Health & Services, acquired Northeast Washington Medical Group, a multispecialty practice based in Colville, Wash., which includes 26 physicians and seven advanced practitioners.

13. Florida Hospital in Orlando acquired Florida Heart Group, a practice with 19 cardiologists.

14. St. Luke's Iowa Health System in Sioux City, Iowa, announced a partnership agreement with Cardiovascular Associates, an 11-physician group in Sioux City.

15. Five independent physician practices joined St. Peter's Health Partners Medical Associates, a physician-governed group that is a full affiliate corporation of St. Peter's Health Partners in Albany, N.Y.
