WSJ Editorial Board: The ACA 'still needs wholesale reform'

The Wall Street Journal Editorial Board points to the ACA's latest enrollment numbers as a reason Republicans need to go on the offense with a fresh plan to remedy the health insurance market.

CMS' latest numbers are "ugly," according to The Wall Street Journal. They indicate many Americans who do not qualify for tax-credit subsidies are leaving the ACA's exchanges. The Wall Street Journal Editorial Board says this is an "indictment" in and of itself, rather than proof of the need for an individual mandate or better marketing.

"[T]he evidence is that the Affordable Care Act still needs wholesale reform, even as many Republicans seem fine to accept ObamaCare as a permanent entitlement," the editorial reads. "Americans are frightened by Medicare for All, but don't be surprised if they take a flyer on single payer if the GOP isn’t offering an alternative."
