Virginia Health Information Releases Report on Hospital Efficiency

Virginia Health Information has released its 2010 Industry Report: Virginia Hospital & Nursing Facilities, a study that contains efficiency rankings of Virginia healthcare facilities, along with information on provider costs, profits and charity care, according to a VHI news release.

Five of the 10 hospitals with the highest efficiency ranking are appearing in the top 10 for a second consecutive year:

• Riverside Walter Reed in Gloucester
• Bon Secours Memorial Regional Medical Center in Richmond
• Winchester (Va.) Medical Center
• Sentara Bayside Hospital in Virginia Beach
• Sentara Leigh Hospital in Norfolk

The VHI report includes information on ASC, hospital and nursing facility efficiency and judges hospitals on a Composite Efficiency and Productivity Score, which considers indicators on cost, productivity and utilization.

The industry report contains a total of 18 hospital indicators, including charity care contributions, staffing levels, profit margins and average costs and payments per admission.
