Plans for the 12-story, 1.3 million-square-foot hospital include 424 beds and 24 operating rooms. The facility will replace University Hospital – St. Paul, which opened in 1963, according to the report.

The $800 million facility will be financed using $400 million in fixed-rate bonds, with the other $400 million coming from designated funds and gifts.

The Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board must now approve the hospital and is expected to make a decision within a month. If approved, the hospital is expected to be completed by Sept. 2014, according to the report.
