“In the changing environment that all healthcare organizations in the nation are having to embrace, we are working to enhance our system so that it is better positioned to provide value-based, sustainable care for our patients for years to come,” UHealth said in an emailed statement to Becker’s Hospital Review. “These shifts include a variety of changes to better address our patients’ needs as consumers. Any changes in staffing are part of a customary business process needed to increase efficiencies and eliminate duplication, ultimately improving benefits for our patients and the healthcare system as a whole.”
UHealth did not say how many jobs at the University of Miami Hospital will be affected. However, the system said “there are no plans for across-the-board layoffs.”
The system said the staffing changes are “scattered and will occur as we determine the need to adjust the business model of a department or unit.” Officials added they don’t expect the number to vary from the organization’s normal turnover rate, and they will give affected employees in good standing the opportunity to look at other positions within UHealth.
